Start Of Week

  • Some good coupons will be available from Expedia on each hour from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM PST today. It’s limited availability…which means this is most likely a get-there-a-little-early-if-you-want-to-take-advantage type of thing. Some of the best ones (like 90% off in the Expedia app) will disappear in a hurry.
  • Kimpton’s newest last-minute deals are here, their Cyber Monday deals are here, and the current password to say at check-in is “Chilled to perfection” (through February 17th).
  • Hotels.com gift cards are available in most Walmart stores. The $50 ones have an extra $15 bonus code coupon included right now. If you’re looking to buy a bunch, just be aware of the terms. They do say, “Merging of gift cards is permitted but customers are limited to one coupon per booking.” Reader Rizwan says he was able to merge the two together. Just go slow at first and make sure it works.

    That’s what she said.

    Sorry. I’m an idiot.
  • If you’re shopping today, take a look at Ebates first – for up to 7x the usual cashback rates.
  • Silvercar always has a discount floating around for new people. But 35% off their Audi car rentals for everyone through 12/20 is probably worth mentioning.

Black Friday

Y’know how when you’re a romantic throughout the year…Valentine’s Day kind of feels like amateur hour?

That’s probably the best way to describe how a bunch of you guys feel about Black Friday.

And I totally get it. The whole thing is a free-for-all with the entire country crowding your deal-hunting space. That said, there are obviously deals of all kinds to be had today. Way too many to even attempt to list on a blog. I think Slickdeals and BlackFriday.com are more than enough for anyone who wants to go through the pages and pages of Black Friday discounts.

Personally, I’m from the buy-only-what-you-need school. Whether for you, for giving, or for reselling. The only other things I find worthwhile today are these types of deals from Target (20% off a future purchase). But to each their own. Have a great weekend, nerds!

Membership Rewards Promo

I feel like I post this once a year (probably because I do) but it’s a hell of a deal when it works. Since it’s showing up for some of you again…

If you have an American Express charge card (earning Membership Rewards points), it’s possible you can grab an easy 10,000 points for enrolling in Pay Over Time. Free, quick, and easy. Pretty much the easiest 10,000 points around.

This won’t work for everyone, but it’s definitely worth checking. Try here, here, here, and here. If it doesn’t work for you now, there’s definitely a chance it will in the future.

Another (unrelated) promo if you have a Membership Rewards-earning card is 20% off on Amazon here.

Also…

Happy Thanksgiving, guys!

Through the years, our strange little miles and points game has changed a lot.

(Well, it’s not quite so little anymore)

The number of “hobbyists,” bloggers, and changing rules have all grown exponentially.

We weren’t a blip on the radar before.

Now we are.

Banks know we exist….they see us…and they’re adjusting accordingly.

In many ways, this isn’t the same world of miles and points anymore.

The point is this…

My real readers…

You guys who care about honesty…

You guys who value decency…

You sane and kind people who “get” it…

I’m thankful for you.

You matter more than ever.

A bunch of you have asked about the end of the year stuff. So we’ll get into that very soon. For now, just know that you really are valued here. I hope you all have a ton to be thankful for in your lives. Happy Thanksgiving!

Delta Black Friday Sale

They refer to this one as “The sale of the year.”

Is it really?

Too hard to say considering all the deals we’ve gotten from Delta in 2018.

(Yes, that’s still crazy weird and slightly traumatic for me to type)

Anyway, yeah, it’s another very good one. Plenty of international flights from different American cities. Cash and dong prices are both listed here.

Busy week for hotel deals. Kimpton discounts are available now and there’s a bunch of stuff coming soon…

  • IHG and Priceline will have Black Friday deals on their websites.
  • Hotwire has three sets of deals on their page – today, Friday and Monday.
  • Hotels.com starts a promo for website visitors as soon as the clock hits November 23rd. It’s a game where you “scratch off” a coupon worth 7%, 8%, 10%, or 99% off a hotel booking.
  • Expedia has Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.
  • Wyndham also has both.
  • Fairmont’s occasionally discounted gift cards will be available during a 3-hour window on Friday.
