Uber Still Doesn’t Suck

Some of you get excited about what I hate more than the the things I love. Sorry to break it to you, but I’m a lover not a fighter (usually). My love affair with Uber continued when I got picked up last week in a shiny BMW by a non-smelly guy named Carl. For new Uber users, you can get a free $75 credit by following these steps. If you already have an Uber account, you’ll have to use a different cell phone/email address to do this.

  1. On your computer, sign up for Uber here. This is your first $10 credit.
  2. Once registered, add promo code OCHOLIDAYS for another 50 bucks.
  3. Go to “Payment” in the Uber app, add a payment, and set up your Paypal account. This is another $15. You don’t need to be a new user for this one, but have to update your app to do it.
Why do I love Uber so much? Well, there’s a few things I’m loyal to – Uber…AwardWallet…Maui…the movie True Romance. Plus, I hate everything about cabs. They smell, the drivers are rude, and I guilt-trippingly end up tipping these stinky jerks. Team Lyft or Team Uber, there’s one thing we can all agree on…down with taxis!

IHG Flash Sale

IHG (the artist formerly known as Priority Club) has another one of their flash sales starting at 10:00 eastern. This will last 2 days. It’s a great way to save up to 75% of the points it would normally take to book a room. Good deal, as always.

Selling Your Miles

With all the devaluation, maybe this will become a less popular question. But I doubt it. I’ve been asked this maybe more than anything else…

“Yo MileNerd, where can I sell my miles?”

There’s a lot of misinformation about this, so let me make it very clear. There’s a giant difference between being illegal and being against program rules. This is not something that’s going to get you tossed in jail. What it can do is get you banned from an airline mileage program. A great friend of the blog lost over 500,000 miles for violating airline program rules. No, he’s not rotting away in a cell, but the situation was still sad. It takes effort to earn so many miles and it’s obviously a valuable currency to lose.

If you interact with enough people in this game, you’ll be able to get some offers for your miles/points. They won’t be the most impressive offers in the world, but you will be able to make a few bucks. Just be very, very careful. Stay away from Craigslist, Ebay, and other obvious websites for the airlines to look. If this is something you’re very serious about, let me know and I can give you some ideas. Just know that the best option is usually to do this with close friends and family
