What To Do About Hilton

Judging by the “Hilton Is Dead To Me” emails, many of you know Hilton points will be worth a lot less very soon. A good summary is here. Unfortunately, this devaluation will hit us where it hurts most – at the really nice properties. I’m not at liberty to share my experience with Hilton complaints, but I know for a fact that your Twitter and Facebook outrage can be very, very effective. Many of you have been saving up Hilton points like crazy, so with this news, here’s what I suggest:

  1. Complain on Twitter and Facebook. Be persistent, angry, and loud.
  2. If you’ve been saving for something big, book before March 28th. Some of the best Hilton Honors options are in the Maldives, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Rome, Maui, Thailand, and Venice.
  3. Start looking at Starwood, Hyatt, and Club Carlson credit cards.
  4. If you have either of the Ink cards (or the Sapphire), consider Hyatt point transfers with your Ultimate Rewards points.

The First Merger Casualty

US Airways and American merged and we knew things would be lost. It always happens, so why would this be any different? Well, one day into it, we’ve already lost something big. The incredible US Airways credit card from Barclays has vanished like a fart in the wind (sorry, that was gross). Getting 40,000 miles after spending $1 with no annual fee was amazing. The fact that you could churn this card over and over made it one of the most special deals around.

What are your options now? The same card is available with an annual fee of $89 here. This is only available in an affiliate link, so some of you might be prefer the 35,000-mile option with no annual fee here. It’s the very first link on the page. No matter which one you pick, it’s a good time to start stockpiling American and US Airways miles.

Hawaii For Less

Some of the most stunning views I’ve ever seen were in Hawaii. I constantly daydream about my next trip there. It’s a lot easier with this great mileage discount from American Airlines here. Of course, if you’re on the west coast, British Airways Avios points are usually the best way to go. As always, the Wandering Aramean calculator is an awesome tool to see how many Avios a flight will cost.
