The term “churning” is what people (including me) use when talking about how we apply for lots of credit cards. Technically, that isn’t what churning is. Churning is actually when you keep getting the bonus from the same card over and over. I’ve made well over a million miles and points in the last year. This week, I am trying to churn for the first time. The cards I’m trying this with are:
- The Hawaiian Airlines Bank of Hawaii card here
- The Hawaiian Airlines Bank of America card here
- The Barclays US Airways card here
I applied for all 3 cards last year, got approved, received my bonus miles, waited 6 months, and closed the cards. Supposedly, I’ll be able to churn these cards and collect the bonuses again. The US Airways miles are obviously useful, and the Hawaiian miles transfer to Hilton at a 1 to 2 ratio. I’m excited to see what happens here, and I’ll let you know the results in a few days.
